Graduation day

VANIKA'S POV

Paris was glowing on my graduation day, but somehow, everything around me felt painfully quiet.

Everyone was taking pictures with their families, laughing as their parents hugged them—I stood beside my only friend, Catherine holding my degree a little tighter.

No one from my family had come. Not even one person.

I smiled anyway, pretending the empty space beside me didn't hurt.

A  day to the new beginnings, new life and new journey.

My only friend Catherine was beside me with her family cheering me.“ You nailed it my love...I am so proud of you.” She exclaimed while taking me in a hug. I smiled at her gestures. “Girls look here.” her mother yelled out to us. I adjusted my graduation cap and soon we took a lots of pictures.

I was exhausted today the moment I reached my apartment I dropped my body on the couch. I was doing good until I received a call from my Mother, Meera Singhania. A flicker of hope aroused, may be she wanted to congratulate me but it lasts small. She wanted me to come back to India.

No questions were asked just a order delivered. I texted Catherine about my departure soon and walked out of the apartment to enjoy the last evening in Paris.

Catherine came to drop me off to the airport. “Take care of yourself and call me every day.” she exclaimed and squeezed my hands.

The next thing I know is I took a flight to India and now I am standing outside the Singhania mansion. I took a deep breadth before pushing open the large gates.

I looked at the mansion, it doesn't feel familiar to me.

I walked inside and found my mom talking to a staff. “ Mom” , I called out to her. She turned towards me and gave me a small smile before approaching me. “I am glad you come.” I nodded my head , acknowledging her.

“You must be tired, go and take rest. Your room is prepared.” with that she walked out leaving me there alone. I sighed and went in the direction of my room.

“Princess, when did you come?” I stopped after hearing the voice. I turned around, only to find my elder brother, Arjun Singhania. I gave him a small smile before asking,“ How are you bhai?”

He immediately engulfed me in a side hug,“ I am good, you should have called me, I myself would have come to pick you up.”

I nodded only. When I was in Paris no one bothered to call me,as if I was dying for their calls but anyway. I shrugged my shoulders. “ I am tired now, We'll talk later.” I said and went towards my room leaving my brother alone.

After freshing up, I took a small nap and I spent most of my time sketching few designs.

At the dinner table,

The large table was occupied by my father, Abhimaan Singhania, My mother Meera Singhania, my elder brother Arjun Singhania and me.

“How was the flight?” Arjun questioned me.

“Ot was good.” I simply replied. “Its good to see you back , princess” My dad said and passed me a small smile. “Thank you dad”.

I replied.

I never wanted to come back but again I can't disrespect my parents. This is least I can do for them. It's been few hours only and I already started missing my life in Paris.

There was silence on the dinning table and I decided to break it. “ Why was I suddenly called here?” I questioned while looking at the faces of my parents and brothers.

They looked at each other. Dad sighed and took a deep breadth as if he was about to say something dangerous.

The moment he utter those words ground beneath my feet slipped.

“Your marriage is fixed.”

My breadth hitched. I stopped mid way to put the morsel in my mouth. “What! Without my permission? No one even asked me once.” I couldn't comprehend what the hell he is saying.

“Stop reacting Vanika. You are already graduated now, you should get married.” For heaven's sake I couldn't understand what is wrong with them. I looked towards my brother for help but he seems so interested in food.

“NO— I can't marry someone, I am just twenty one and I just graduated few days ago, I have to built my career, my life, everything.”, pain is already visible in my voice but no one pay any attention.

“ We are not asking you, but telling you. You are marrying the boy we chose. You have no options not after everything you did. You are going to meet that boy tomorrow.” My father spat those harsh words at me, without caring for my feelings.

“ I have lost my appetite.” I said before getting up from my seat and left for my room but stopped midway when Abhimaan Singhania voice intrupped,“ I dare you do something reckless tomorrow, no one will save you then.”

“What if that guy refuses?” I questioned back to my father. “ He won't, he is a responsible guy.” I nod my head at his words.

Isn't my marriage is something I should decide.

I shut the door of my room with a loud thud and spent the whole night crying.

I already made up my mind to make that boy deny for the marriage.

Yes.

There will be no marriage.
